Ecotourism

We are committed to minimising our carbon footprint and have designed our tours with this in mind.

Our tours are carbon neutral - we offset all our business carbon emissions through the World Land Trust's Carbon Balanced Programme.

This includes all our tour emissions together with the emissions from our office. We take steps to minimise our carbon footprint and make everything we do environmentally friendly, and have formulated our Ecotourism policy accordingly.

We help to save the rainforest on our guests’ behalf – we support the World Land Trust  in its work saving tropical forests and other threatened wildlife habitats. This not only benefits wildlife, but also benefits us all, since rainforest destruction not only destroys irreplaceable habitats, but also releases large volumes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, whilst standing rainforests absorb many thousands of tons of carbon dioxide per annum.

Each year, for every guest on one of our all-inclusive holidays or private short breaks we save 200 square metres of rainforest, whilst for every guest on one of our private day tours we save 50 square metres of rainforest.

This adds up to quite a total over the course of a year – see our rainforest acres page to see how much rainforest we’ve saved on our guests’ behalf. These rainforest acres will help to reduce the negative environmental impact of our guests’ travel to Orkney.

We also encourage our clients to offset the carbon emissions caused by their travel to Orkney by using a recognised carbon offset scheme, such as that provided by the Carbon Balanced Programme of the World Land Trust
