Orkney's Islands

The largest of the Orkney islands is the Mainland, linked to the south isles of Burray and South Ronaldsay by the Churchill Barriers. The other islands - Rousay, Hoy, Sanday, Stronsay, Eday, Westray, Papay (as Papa Westray is known locally), North Ronaldsay, Shapinsay, Egilsay, Wyre, Flotta - are reached by ferry and air services from Mainland Orkney.

Many other tours neglect the islands, but we like to give you an all round island experience. Our one week all-inclusive Orkney Holidays and our 6-night, 5-day Orkney Odyssey include the short ferry rides to the islands of Rousay and Hoy, and we also cross the Churchill Barriers to the linked South Isles.

The ferry crossings are all part of the fun - we often see seals, porpoises and a range of seabirds from the boat - diving gannets have been particularly good this year, and there's always the joys of puffin watching in Westray in the breeding season.

We are also love taking visitors to the other islands of Orkney - if you take one of our private short breaks we can customise your itinerary to visit whichever islands you prefer. We are happy to arrange flights to the smaller islands such as Papay - via Westray on the shortest scheduled air flight in the world, - and overnight stays in the isles. Simply contact us and tell us what you want of your Orkney experience and we'll arrange it!

We often use our Orkney Odyssey or Orkney Adventure itineraries as a starting point, then add other islands to suit your requirements.
