Rainforest Acres

For every guest on one of our all-inclusive holidays or private short breaks we save 200 square metres of rainforest, whilst for every guest on one of our day tours we save 50 square metres of rainforest. This is in addition to our carbon neutral approach to touring, where we offset our own carbon dioxide emissions as part of our commitment to eco tourism.

We add the totals up at the end of the year and use the World Land Trust's 'Save Rainforest Acres'  scheme.

This adds up to quite a total over the course of a year - after our successful 2008 season we saved four acres of rainforest on our guests' behalf - that's nearly 16,200 square metres, comprising around 600 trees and numerous other plant and animal species.

We are pleased to say that the continuing growth of our business in 2009 enabled us to save a further five acres of rainforest on our guests' behalf.

These rainforest acres will help to reduce the negative environmental impact of our guests’ travel to Orkney.

We encourage our clients to fully offset the carbon emissions caused by their travel to Orkney by using a recognised carbon offset scheme such as that provided by Carbon Balanced Programme of the World Land Trust.
