Going beyond our own Eco Policy, to help reduce the possible negative environmental impact of our guests' travel to Orkney, we support the World Land Trust's 'Buy an Acre' fund (formerly known as the 'Rainforest Acres' scheme)
For every one of our guests taking one of our holidays or private tours we make a donation to this scheme equivalent to 200 square metres of rainforest.
This adds up to a substantial total over the years - so far we've made donations to the scheme which has saved 21 acres of rainforest & have the certificates to prove it!
This scheme really makes a difference - to quote the World Land Trust's own website:
Q. Why should I save acres with the World Land Trust and what does it mean to save an acre?
A. By saving acres with the WLT you will be taking direct action to save tropical forests and other important wildlife areas, by funding the purchase of threatened habitats. The acres you buy are protected as nature reserves, owned and managed by local organisations.
We encourage our clients to fully offset the carbon emissions caused by their travel to Orkney by using a recognised carbon offset scheme such as that provided by Carbon Balanced Programme of the World Land Trust.
